DBasia.news – Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will officially wear the number 1 jersey next season.
The jersey number will go to him following the departure of Bernd Leno to Fulham in the transfer market this summer.
Leno is actually Arsenal’s main goalkeeper in recent seasons. However, since Ramsdale’s arrival to London Colney last summer, the German goalkeeper has also left the first team.
Manager Mikel Arteta immediately fell in love with Ramsdale’s impressive performance on his debut before the England international was patented as the Gunners’ main goalkeeper.
In total, the 24-year-old goalkeeper recorded 34 games in the Premier League last season, barely giving Leno room to reclaim his position.
Suddenly the presence of Ramsdale became a signal for Leno that his career at Arsenal was over. Luckily, this week, Fulham moved quickly to secure his signature.
Leno himself was already uncomfortable with his situation at Arsenal when Ramsdale came to be projected as the team’s main goalkeeper. The former Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper is determined to go to Fulham in order to get regular appearances next season.
That way, the number 1 will become vacant, so his jersey now belongs to Ramsdale, who in the previous season wore the number 32.
Saturday (6/8), Arsenal will face Crystal Palace in the Premier League opener.
