DBasia.news – Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, is considering postponing all of the 26th week matches of the 2019-2020 Italian League that takes place this weekend. Conte admitted that one week was not the ideal time to postpone the entire sporting event due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus in Italy.
The Corona Virus outbreak that spread rapidly in northern Italy this week has prompted local authorities to take emergency action. All sports, public places and schools are closed until March 1.
This week, as many as four Serie A matches in Week 25 are postponed. The four matches are Inter Milan vs Sampdoria, Atalanta vs. Sassuolo, Hellas Verona vs. Cagliari, and Torino vs Parma. This was done according to the instructions of Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, and Minister of Sports, Vincenzo Spadafora.
According to Giuseppe Conte, there is a possibility that a similar delay will be carried out in the 26th week. Not just Serie A, but the entire professional and amateur football competition in Italy.
“I am not sure that within one week we can slow down transmission so that all sporting events can be held again,” Giuseppe Conte told RAI Sport as quoted by Italian Football.
The Italian Prime Minister added, “We are continuing to monitor the situation and will carry out an evaluation. We will see the development of the spread (Corona Virus) and evaluate the possibility of delaying all matches next week. “
If it drags on, the postponement of Serie A matches will affect the schedule towards the end of the season. In fact, maybe the end of the competition will be shifted which will also affect the preparation of the Italian national team ahead of the 2020 European Cup.
