DBasia.news – Manchester City cannot withstand the departure of their talented German player, Leroy Sane. The 24-year-old wing attacker has decided not to renew his contract and word has spread that he has agreed to join Bayern Munich with a tag of 49 million euros.
Pep Guardiola, City manager has confirmed Sane’s unwillingness to extend his contract which ended in 2021 with the club.
“Leroy said he did not want to extend his contract. If he wanted to leave, it would happen this summer or at the end of the contract. The club spoke to me several times – he refused his contract, so he wanted to play at another club,” Guardiola stated.
Guardiola did not regret his departure or was disappointed with the decision taken, as Sane had expressed his wishes and he appreciated that.
“Of course I am disappointed. When we make an offer to players, it is because we want them. We tried it before injury, we tried and were rejected. I said that we want players who want to play with this club and are committed to trying to reach our targets.” Guardiola.
“But of course we respect him. He is a great man. I love him very much. He is educated, a good family. I am not against him, but he decided that he wanted another adventure for his career.”
Nevertheless his departure leaves questions behind his reasons for not wanting to sign a new contract. Man City are no longer champions of the Premier League this season after winning twice in a row, but their game is still the same with Guardiola.
Especially Guardiola also still relies on Sane with the advantages of playing on the wing, penetrating, opening space in the opponent’s defense, and able to score goals. That’s the reason City brought him in from Schalke for £ 46.5 million in 2016.
Sane offered two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups during his time with Man City. But in the last season his performance declined, he suffered injuries, and his position was occupied by Raheem Sterling.
Not to mention the serious intention of Bayern to repatriate Leroy Sane to Germany. That also influenced his decision to leave Man City even though he could still develop with Pep Guardiola.
Given the information published by Goal and other sources, the reason Man City was unable to restrain the departure of Leroy Sane was because of his desire to play at Bayern. In addition there are problems with Sane’s work ethic that concerns Guardiola and Joachim Low, coach of the German national team.
Low did not include Sane who was in his best condition when Germany played in the 2018 World Cup. Low assessed Sane was not ready to appear and had to fix several aspects of his game. This was confirmed by Guardiola.
“Leroy made mistakes in simple things – big mistakes. He still has a lot to develop,” Guardiola stated in 2018.
“He is a special talent, we need his goal, but how to survive (towards) setbacks,” he added.
Judging by the comments it was understandable that Man City could not defend him. In their offensive games the way they survived must also be done collectively. Moreover, the return of Sane to Germany could be a positive thing for Low who is easier to monitor. A solution that benefits all parties.
