The Reason Ralf Rangnick Called as Klopp and Tuchel’s Teacher

DBasia.news – Sosolk Ralf Rangnick, who was appointed interim coach of Manchester United, is said to be a teacher of Jurgen Klopp and Tuchel.

Ralf Rangnick is a coach who has a fairly high flying experience. Although currently working behind the scenes, Rangnick has been in the coaching world since 1983. At that time, he was both a player and coach at Viktoria Backnang.

Since then, Rangnick has traveled to a number of clubs such as Stuttgart, SSV Reutlingen, Hannover 96, FC Schalke 04, TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig. When he last became Leipzig manager in 2019, Rangnick played 52 games and averaged 1.92 points per game.

In his long career as a coach, Rangnick has one characteristic, namely high pressing. In fact, Rangnick is touted as a teacher of the gegenpressing tactic that Jurgen Klopp is currently using at Liverpool.

In addition, Rangnick also played a role in the philosophy of coaching Thomas Tuchel. In fact, in the 2020-2021 season, there are seven coaches in the Bundesliga who have worked with or under Ralf Rangnick. Not surprisingly, he was nicknamed The Godfather of German Coaching.

“This is a football tactic that is fast, proactive, attacking, interesting, entertaining and relies on a good attack. We will press high and intensely,” explained Rangnick as reported by the Mirror.

“When we have the ball, we don’t like back-passes. The goalkeeper also doesn’t want to be the player who makes the most contact with the ball.”

To support this tactic, Rangnick applies an unusual formation, namely 4-2-2-2. While still in charge of RB Leipzig, Rangnick developed the positioning of his players based on the classic 4-4-2 diamond formation.

“We decided to play with a formation that the teams in Germany and Austria had never used. We came up with four defenders, two number sixes with one player more like a number eight, two number 10s and two strikers. The result, we were fantastic and made it difficult for other teams attack.”

As the name suggests, the key to Rangnick’s tactical success is high pressing. The attackers are also required to press when the opponent is holding the ball. That way, the flow of the ball from the enemy is not optimal.

Currently, Fred is the Manchester United player who presses the most. Statistics record, Fred 224 times applying pressing in the Premier League. In second place is Bruno Fernandes with 205 pressings.

Apart from tactics on the pitch, Rangnick also plays a big role in selecting players. Rangnick is known to have excellent instincts in reading the talents of the players.

Therefore, Rangnick submitted a requirement to be a consultant when his contract as interim manager expired at the end of this season. Reportedly, Man United agreed and were ready to give Rangnick a two-year term.

With this position, Rangnick can play a role in the transfer of Manchester United. Rangnick will be tasked with finding potential players to strengthen the Red Devils.
