The story of when Ferguson slammed a Man United player’s cellphone

DBasia.news – Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26 years at Manchester United was marked by many things other than great success on the domestic scene. During this time the Scottish coach was remembered in England in many ways.

There are those who remember Fergie’s time, referring to the comeback moments that Man United often made in extra time or near the end of the game, there are also those who see the figure of Ferguson as an authoritarian figure.

That authority makes him a dominant figure that players cannot challenge. Even a famous player like David Beckham who went to Real Madrid after shining at United because of the rumors with Ferguson.

The story is getting more and more true as many former players have talked about Ferguson’s assertiveness when he led United. Recently, former Man United defender Paul Waker revealed another interesting fact.

Parker, who is also a former England defender who reached the semifinals of the 1990 World Cup, spoke about his former team-mate, Steve Bruce. The man who now serves as manager of Newcastle United has felt Ferguson’s assertiveness.

Bruce’s cell phone was slammed by Ferguson because it rang when the manager was talking in the locker room at half-time. In fact, according to Parker, Bruce kept his cellphone close because his wife Janet was in the hospital with back pain.

“I will never forget when Alex slammed Steve’s phone, which happened at half-time making the manager furious,” Parker recalled as quoted by the Mirror.

“Steve left his phone on because his wife Janet was hospitalized with a back problem and he was waiting for an update on his wife’s condition.”

“The first half of the game didn’t go well and you could tell we were going to be scolded because as soon as the boss came into the locker room he took off his jacket, which is an indication that he’s being serious.

“He started to pay great attention to some of us. Suddenly the phone rang and the first person he saw was me because for some reason he always linked me to phones.”

“Luckily I was innocent, so he started following the line of players, staring at each one, trying to find where the sound was coming from. A pitty to the one who has it.”

“Finally, with his sharp ears, he glanced at Brucey’s jacket, stuck his hand in it and pulled out his cell phone. Without thinking he tossed it forcefully into the trash, completely destroying it.”

“No one said a word. Even Steve, knowing it wouldn’t make a difference, remained silent. You just have to carry on and Steve knows there’s work to be done in the second half, all domestic worries have to be pushed aside..”

Steve Bruce is a former Man United defender from 1987-1996. During this time Bruce won three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup, and the Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup.
