This Arsenal and Leicester Target Was Offered a New Contract by Celtic

DBasia.news – Celtic’s manager, Neil Lennon, stated that his team was in discussion about a new contract with Odsonne Edouard who’s being targeted of Arsenal and Leicester City.

Edouard scored 22 goals in 27 appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season, coming out as top scorer and helped Celtic win the league for the ninth year in a row after the competition had to end faster due to the corona virus pandemic.

Edouard’s brilliant performance attracted the attention of a number of big European clubs, and the 22-year-old player has been widely linked to his departure from Celtic Park despite being under contract for another two years.

Arsenal emerged as one of Edouard’s enthusiasts amid uncertainty about the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, while Leicester were reportedly preparing a bid of £30 million to get the French striker.

However, Lennon said Celtic was trying to extend Edouard’s contract, or keep him at the club for at least one of the following seasons.

“There was a discussion with his representative [Edouard],” Lennon said as quoted by Goal. “In the end he was the player we wanted. He was a fantastic player. He has really developed over the last few seasons.”

“He has had an extraordinary season this year and we want to keep it as simple as that. We are doing everything we can to keep him here for at least one more season.”

“I think he is [happy]. I think he has a fantastic relationship with me and the reserve team, as well as his team-mates. You can see how his supporters value him too. He grows into a great striker. Of course, there will be speculation about the players with qualities like that. But we are comfortable with our position with him now.”
