DBasia.news – Facundo Pellistri admitted to rejecting Olympique Lyon as Manchester United’s appeal was too strong, not to mention that his parents always watched English Premier League matches with him.
The 18-year-old winger joined United from Uruguayan club, Penarol on yesterday’s transfer deadline, with him securing a move worth 10 million euros.
Many great things are expected from this talented player, who has previously been linked with other big clubs such as Real Madrid, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Pellistri explained that a move to Old Trafford feels hard to believe, considering that he only made his debut at Penarol in 2019.
“This is amazing because I just made my debut in the senior team about a year ago,” said Pellistri to Telemundo.
“At that time it was difficult to imagine playing in the first team with Penarol and now instead with Manchester United. I never dreamed of that and it is very emotional for me and my family. “
The winger continued that French club, Olympique Lyon was interested in him, but in the end chose United as the port of his next career.
“There is a lot of news regarding the two offers [from the two clubs] and luckily they tried to leave me alone so I wasn’t too crazy,” continued Pellistri.
“It first came from Lyon and then Manchester and I am thrilled with the opportunity.
“It [Premier League] is a league that I always watched with my parents, saw great teams and you never imagined playing there.
“Now that I have the opportunity to play there, I’m ready to start a new adventure and see how the rhythm goes and if it’s as fast as a lot of people say.”
Pellistri did not forget to thank the club he left, especially after coming from the academy at Penarol.
“It’s the biggest team,” said Pellistri of Penarol. “I’ve played for all age levels at the club, I was at that club for more than seven years. I felt everything, a lot of experiences, a lot of good things like debuting at the Campen del Siglo stadium and other things. It is a dream and pride to strengthen that team.
“I left with a lot of determination to come back one day.”
