DBasia.news – Emiliano Martinez has made the decision to leave Arsenal to join Aston Villa via text message. He turned out to have strong reasons for his decision to leave the Gunners.
Martinez became a solid wall under Arsenal’s goal after Bernd Leno suffered a serious injury in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion, last June. He was even able to present two trophies, namely the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
This consistent performance has made him the favorite to continue guarding Arsenal’s goal even though Leno had gradually recovered. But four days before Arsenal played their first 2020-2021 Premier League match, Martinez chose to leave for Aston Villa.
It turns out that Martinez is not guaranteed to be Arsenal’s main goalkeeper this season. He has confirmed this to Arteta.
“I told him (Arteta) that I wanted to play every week and he couldn’t guarantee who would start. Even before the Community Shield, he didn’t know who would play between the posts, “said Martinez as quoted by Goal.
“So I just texted him to say I’m going to Aston Villa, so please help me and let me go.”
The message was striking as if Martinez had slapped Arteta and Arsenal. His hard work to present two trophies seemed to not be appreciated.
Martinez also succeeded in making Arsenal even more remorseful after bringing Aston Villa to victory at the Emirates Stadium on Monday (9/11) am. His former club was humiliated with a striking 0-3 score.
“After 10 years at the club, I don’t want to wait until Friday night, the day before the (Premier League) opener, to find out whether I will play against Fulham or not,” he added.
Even so, Martinez did not hold a grudge against Arteta. In his opinion, a manager has to make difficult decisions and the players has to accept it.
Martinez also thanked Arteta for giving him the opportunity to appear in Leno. Thanks to that, he was able to steal the attention of other clubs after being on the bench for a while.
“Obviously I have ambition and he (Arteta) can’t help realize the ambition I want, so we had a clear conversation and he is a very honest person and a great leader,” he concluded.
