DBasia.news – RB Leipzig’s 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk during the Champions League final match had consequences. One of the strikers, Timo Werner, had to suffer a ligament injury in the ankle.
Werner’s confirmation of an injury was conveyed by club management. Based on an interim scan, Werner has been ruled out of 2022 to recover.
“Bad news for Timo Werner and RB Leipzig! The striker injured his left ankle in the win over Shakhtar Donetsk, and was taken off in the 19th minute,” Leipzig said in a statement on their official website.
“A scan today (Thursday) in Leipzig showed that the syndesmosis ligament in his left ankle was torn. Because of that, Timo Werner will be out for the rest of 2022. A decision on his treatment will be made in the coming days.”
The injury also made Werner have to forget his desire to appear in the 2022 World Cup. Even though Werner became one of Hansi Flick’s options in the attack line.
Flick also regretted the injury suffered by Werner, and considered it a great loss. For Flick, Werner is an important part of Der Panzer squad at the World Cup later.
“This is disappointing news. I feel sorry for Timo, because he will miss the World Cup where he is determined to play,” Flick said via the official website of the German football federation (DFB).
“Above all, his absence is a big loss for the team. We will be missing a great striker, and a true team player who has a great goalscoring record for his country. We wish him a speedy recovery!”
This situation makes Flick have to adjust the game scheme. Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller could be brought in to replace Werner. Thus, Jamal Musiala can fill the post left by Muller as an attacking midfielder.
Flick is set to announce today’s World Cup squad in Frankfurt. Germany are scheduled to face Oman in a friendly match in Muscat before embarking on a trip to the World Cup.
