To Make Courtois Stay, Here’s What Chelsea Must Do

DBasia.news – Maurizio Sarri’s presence as the newest manager of Chelsea doesn’t simply guarantee the future of two key players, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, to stay with The Blues. Both of them still probably move to their main interest: Real Madrid.

Madrid, who are looking for Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor, looking forward getting Hazard. While his compatriot, Courtois, aimed to replace Keylor Navas or Kiko Casilla who are 31 years old.

Compared to Hazard who still has a contract until 2020, Courtois’ contract with Chelsea will be over next year. Assuming that he doesn’t extend his contract, it means Chelsea has no choice except selling him before releasing him for free last year.

Courtois, 26, performed well in the 2018 World Cup, also helping the Belgium National Team to be the third champion beating England 2-0. Playing in 7 matches, Courtois did 27 rescues with 81,8 percent value, the highest among other goalkeepers.

The former Atletico Madrid player also submits requirements for Chelsea to make him stay in London. Chelsea has to upgrade his salary more than £200,000-a-week, in the new contract.

“I will go back and I will see what they want and how they say it. Obviously, with this World Cup, I think what was on the table is different than what I can have,” said Courtois to Telegraph.

“In this World Cup, I have ignored all the speculation, all the rumors. But now, in the next few days, I will have a chat with my agent and see what Chelsea told him, and then we will talk. But I feel happy at Chelsea, it’s not that I necessarily want to leave.”

Courtois is not the only goalkeeper target for Madrid. Besides Courtois, there are also David De Gea, Alisson Becker, and Jan Oblak.
