DBasia.news – Mario Icardi hopes that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Thomas Tuchel can bring him down and Edison Cavani at the same time. Icardi is optimistic he can be a good attacking duo with Cavani in the coming matches.
After being loaned to the French capital from Inter for one season, Icardi has scored seven goals in all competitions for PSG.
The arrival of the Argentine striker was at the beginning of September at the right time, considering Cavani suffered a hip injury at the start of the season and had to be sidelined for six weeks.
Cavani has played off the bench in the last two Ligue 1 matches, including during a shock 1-2 defeat by Dijon last week, but Tuchel has not paired the Uruguayan striker with Icardi since the start of the match.
However, according to Icardi, the two can work together and become a good tandem on the front lines of PSG.
Both of them had known each other when they were still playing in Italian Serie A.
“I have known Edi (Cavani) for a long time, we have been in Italy for a long time. Edi is an extraordinary player who has made history at PSG, he has played a lot here,” Icardi told RMC reported by Goal on Tuesday.
“I want to contribute here, but the coach has to decide (who will play). We both work for the good of the team, that’s what we say to ourselves all the time, on and off the pitch.”
“Edi and I are attackers, we like to score goals, we can play together if the coach decides, but (the decision) does not depend on us. In the end, it is the coach who decides, that is his job.”
Although PSG is seven points clear at the top of the table, Tuchel is currently under pressure after a series of inconsistent results this year.
Their defeat by Dijon is the third this season and eighth in Ligue 1 in 2019, their worst record since swallowing 13 league defeats in 2010.
However, they incised a 100 percent record in the Champions League so far and can secure their place to the next phase with two matches remaining if they win against Club Bruges on Thursday early morning Western Indonesian Time.
