Tony Cascarino Says Manchester United made a Blunder for Letting Romelu Lukaku Go

Romelu Lukaku

DBasia.news –  Manchester United is said to have made a mistake when releasing Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez without finding a replacement. This was stated by Tony Cascarino, former Chelsea player.

Lukaku went to Inter Milan this summer for 65 million euros with a gradual payment over the next five years. Following Lukaku, Sanchez also went to the Nerazzurri on loan status without the option to purchase.

As a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United now only has three attackers: Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford. Three talented strikers but lacking in experience.

“Considering that they have let Romelu Lukaku go, I see that it is truly ‘extraordinary’ that United did not recruit top center strikers in the transfer market,” Cascarino said in his writing column in The Times.

“Marcus Rashford is able to do spectacular things and has great potential, but not yet consistent. Anthony Martial is another young talent, but I think he is more effective playing widely, not from the center.”

“In short, I don’t think they guarantee 20 goals every season. Afterwards, United had a 17-year-old player, Mason Greenwood, a teenager who was highly rated, but suddenly made a big jump as United’s third choice striker,” added the former Chelsea striker.

Cascarino also criticized Solskjaer’s policy of not following his former coach at Man United, Sir Alex Ferguson, from the aspect of the abundant playing stock on the front lines.

In the past, Manchester United was known as a team that always had dangerous ammunition on the front lines such as Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Dimitar Berbatov, and Robin van Persie.

In contrast to the squad in the Ferguson era, United’s current squad does not possess – even lacking – on a reliable front-line player with at least 20 goals per season.

“Throughout their dominance under the care of Sir Alex Ferguson, and even the manager afterwards, United always have four or more attackers and they always recruit more,” added Cascarino.

“They once had Andy Cole and continued to recruit Dwight Yorke. They had York and recruited Ruud van Nistelrooy. Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Dimitar Berbatov, Robin van Persie. The list of attackers continues,” he concluded.
