Tottenham Hotspur Assessed Will Need Samuel Umtiti if Jan Vertonghen Leaves

DBasia.news – Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes the Lilywhites need Samuel Umtiti’s if Jan Vertonghen leaves White Hart Lane.

The position of the central defender is one part of Tottenham’s squad which often gets the spotlight. Currently Jose Mourinho can use Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen, and Juan Foyth.

Although Alderweireld has extended his contract, until now Tottenham has not been able to reach a contract extension agreement with Vertonghen.

Speculation about Vertonghen’s future makes Tottenham needs to bring in a new center back. The Lilywhites this time got advice to bring in Barcelona’s center back who has the chance to leave the Camp Nou in the upcoming transfer window, Samuel Umtiti.

“Umtiti is the one they need. Vertonghen has not become himself. It’s because of the contract problem, but it seems like he always thinks of leaving,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“He sometimes looks discouraged, you can see it in his body language. He is not yet himself. Someone like Umtiti, who is only 26, would be ideal if Vertonghen left.”

“If he leaves, that is the position they should pay attention to. I suspect they will strengthen the team with more than one player but Umtiti fits the criteria. He would be a good transfer,” he concluded.
