Manchester United are in the hunt for a transfer expert to replace Ed Woodward. Two top Ajax Amsterdam officials, namely Marc Overmars and Edwin van der Sar, gave a signal that they were ready to fill the position.
It’s no secret that Manchester United’s movements in several transfer windows have been terrible. Ed Woodward and Matt Judge who became transfer interpreters failed to carry out their roles optimally.
Evidently, Manchester United often had difficulty obtaining their target players. If successful, the pay would be very high.
This has certainly stifled Manchester United officials. The Old Trafford is reportedly looking for the right person to fill the post of sporting director.
The name Van der Sar is one of the strongest candidates to fill the position. However, his position as CEO of Ajax has made this wish difficult to realize.
But a breath of fresh air came from Overmars. He admits that he does not want to be in the position of sporting director for Ajax for a long time.
In fact, this also applies to Van der Sar. But Overmars wants to be recruited in a package with his partner if he gets an offer from another club.
“When I was appointed for this job at Ajax, I knew I only wanted to last a maximum of three or four years, but now it’s eight seasons. “Edwin and I will not continue here until we are 60 years old,” said Overmars as quoted by the Mirror.
“This job at Ajax consumes too much energy. Edwin and I are proud that we have brought Ajax back to where they should be in Europe.”
Overmars and Van der Sar played an important role in making Ajax be re-respected in Europe. De Amterdammers’ status as a scorer of talented young players has also returned thanks to their cold hands.
This success is certainly a valuable asset to improve Manchester United’s fragile foundation since Sir Alex Ferguson. It is possible that Overmars and Van der Sar’s arrival to Old Trafford will happen at the end of this season.
