DBasia.news – UEFA announced that Istanbul, Turkey, will host the 2022-23 Champions League final. Meanwhile, Munich’s quota, which was supposed to be that year, was shifted to 2024-25.
Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia, will continue to host the 2021-22 Champions League final, which is scheduled to take place on May 28, 2022.
Istanbul was supposed to host the 2019-20 Champions League final, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced UEFA to move the remaining series of the 2019/20 final stages to be played entirely in Portugal and the final to be played in Lisbon.
Istanbul and several other pre-determined arenas had to suspend the rights to host the Champions League final a year later.
However, in June, Istanbul again canceled to host the 2020-21 Champions League final following a spike in COVID-19 cases. UEFA decided to move the final back to Portugal.
The latest decision of the UEFA Executive Committee meeting confirmed Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium to host the 2022-23 Champions League final.
While Wembley Stadium, London, England, will continue to hold the 2023-24 Champions League final and the Allianz Arena Stadium in Munich, Germany, will get the final the following year.
“Furthermore, the kick-off of European club competitions which include the group draws for the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League will take place in Istanbul at the end of August for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons,” UEFA said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Republic of Ireland will host the 2023-24 Europa League final. Meanwhile, the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, was chosen as the location for the 2024-25 Europa League final.
