DBasia.news – Doing the extra training is a common thing for athlete or football player to enhance their capability. Interestingly, Olympique Lyonnais wing-forward Memphis Depay was diallowed to do it once by Louis van Gall in Manchester United.

Memphis Depay joined Manchester United on July 2015. The Netherlands player came as one of the most promising young talents in Europe.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get many chance to play. He tried to change by doing the extra practice, but Van Gaal as the manager refused it.

“One time I wanted to work on my left foot and crosses, so I was doing extra training with Giggs,” said Depay in an interview with the Sunday Times.

“(Van Gaal) led me in his office and said ‘why are you training?’ I said I want to improve my cross with my left foot. He said your crosses are already good, it’s in your head,” Depay said.

“He wasn’t happy I was training extra and things like that make you think as a young guy. At the time I wasn’t playing and had wanted to show how much I want this, that I’d do more than normal to get my chance again,” Depay emphasized.

Then, Manchester United decided to release Memphis Depay to Olympique Lyon in 2017 winter transfer market. The decision was wrong because the 24-year-old player performed really well with his goal and assist.

“I hadn’t met him since the last game of the (2015-16) season when he put me out of the squad for the FA Cup final. I don’t know if that was personal,” Depay said.

Thanks to his impressive performance in Olympique Lyon, Depay joined the Netherlands national team. Currently, Depay has been scoring 6 goals and 11 assists from 23 matches.
