VAR is ready to be used in the last 16 of the Champions League

VAR

DBasia.news –  UEFA announces that VAR will be used during the last 16 of the 2018-2019 Champions League. Previously, UEFA planned to use VAR in the Champions League starting next season.

However, there was a push for them to accelerate the use of this technology.

The result, UEFA also accelerated the initial plan to use VAR in the Champions League. They began to apply it in the knockout phase of the Champions League this season.

UEFA itself is late using VAR. Previously, Serie A, Bundesliga, LaLiga, and 2018 World Cup had implemented the technology.

UEFA Referee’s Chief, Roberto Rosetti, explained why UEFA accelerated the use of VAR. According to him, UEFA saw VAR can help referees who served on the field.

“UEFA believes the Champions League will benefit from VAR. This will help the referee in charge and reduce wrong decisions,” said Roberto Rosetti.

“Referees accept the decision to use VAR very well. We did some training and they received it well. We made the right decision using VAR.”

“We tested the technology. We tried VAR in several matches. In my opinion, we are ready to use VAR in the last 16 of the Champions League,” he continued.
