Villarreal and Getafe Denied Involved in Match Result Setting

DBasia.news – Two La Liga clubs, Villarreal and Getafe strongly denied their involvement after there was a report in Spain that said they were part of an investigation into the match-fixing case.

Getafe and Villarreal met in the La Liga campaign last season and drew 2-2 at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum on May 18, 2019.

It was the final match of the 2018/19 season between the two teams, with Getafe only needing one point to secure a ticket to Champions League qualification.

El Pais reported the match was being investigated, as part of Operation Oikos, a special Spanish police unit formed to deal with the problem of fixing.

“Villarreal CF and its main team totally reject the allegations raised in the last few hours,” Villarreal released.

“Both Villarreal CF and the first team want to underline that they completely reject the allegations raised in the last few hours and want to openly deny explicitly the alleged involvement in match-fixing against Getafe.”

“Villarreal CF will study and consider the possibility of taking legal action regarding this situation.”

Getafe also said they would take legal steps to fight for their veteran striker Jorge Molina, whose name was mentioned in the media.

“We want to spread the message of rejection and firmly deny any implications related to this problem,” they wrote.

“Getafe CF openly condemns this type of behavior and will not tolerate its tarnished reputation, and the integrity of the player is not in doubt.”
