DBasia.news –  A big thank you was made by Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, to the manager, Jurgen Klopp. Van Dijk said after winning the PFA 2018-19 Premier League Best Player award, the Professional Footballers Association.

Virgil van Dijk, who appeared strongly in Liverpool’s defense, outperformed the other nominees, Sadio Mane, Eden Hazard, Bernado Silva, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling. The last name mentioned on the list won the title of the best young player.

After ensuring themselves to be the best in the 2018-2019 Premier League, Van Dijk thanked Klopp who felt he had improved his ability. Van Dijk became the first defender to win the award since John Terry in 2005. He also followed in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah who received a similar award last season.

“Jurgen Klopp helped a lot. Obviously he made sure that I could play for Liverpool along with the people behind the scenes,” Van Dijk said as Soccerway reported.

“It’s unbelieveable. To win this award, you are chosen by the players you fight from week to week. This is the highest honor I can get, so I am very proud.”

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018. This season, the Dutch player helped the Reds record 20 clean sheets and scored three goals.

“It’s nice to get recognition from other players. Surviving is as important as attacking and for the past two years we have performed brilliantly with other players. It’s a very good season, we’ll see how this ends,” explained Van Dijk.
