DBasia.news – Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk sent a classy message to Aston Villa after their big win over the defending Premier League champions on Monday (5/10).
Mohamed Salah’s brace could not prevent Liverpool from losing to Aston Villa, who scored seven goals at home to themselves. The Reds conceded seven goals in a single game for the first time since April 1963, in a 7-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are the first reigning English champions to concede seven league goals since Arsenal against Sunderland in September 1953.
The Reds defender, Virgil van Dijk, still appreciates the extraordinary performance shown by Dean Smith’s troops at Villa Park earlier this morning. However, he also asked his comrades to make this shameful defeat part of the lesson for the future.
“It’s hard to lose like our way tonight,” said the Dutch defender, quoting the Liverpool Echo. “First and foremost, good job for Aston Villa. You have to give them the credit they deserve.”
“But if we look at ourselves, it feels like it was one of those performances where we didn’t do it 100%. From start to finish. The goals that came into our goal, we should have played better. But also the chances we had. We had it a lot. We should have played better with that too.”
“Overall we are very disappointed. We shouldn’t lose to the numbers we got. And now is the key to stick together and [not] let this happen again.”
Asked if there was any particular reason why the Reds’ form had fallen so sharply, Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports: “I don’t know. The level of performance between the last game against Arsenal [in the league] and today was too great. All of us, everyone has to take responsibility.”
