Wales Fans Are Furious after Ethan Ampadu Gets a Red Card

DBasia.news – The Welsh public expressed their anger after Ethan Ampadu was shown a red card when Wales lost to Italy 0-1.

The 20-year-old got a straight red card for violating Federico Bernardeschi. The incident was investigated by VAR, but the red card decision did not change.

Wales captain Gareth Bale felt the decision to give Ampadu a red card was a tough one. “I didn’t actually see it, but obviously I would argue to try and defend Ethan,” Bale said after the game, quoted by SportMail.

Aaron Ramsey commented on this diplomatically, “That’s one of those decisions that might go well.”

Fans on social media could not contain their anger and voiced the referee’s decision. “It was a hard red card. Ampadu wasn’t really careless. VAR would never have canceled it after the referee gave it,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

“Late tackle by Ampadu but we’ve seen that tackle 50 times in this tournament and not a single one got a red card,” added another.

A third Twitter user also wrote, “If it’s a red card then football is over. What a shocking decision.”

“How come red, when Alba (Spain) gets a yellow card for the same action. The only reason I can think of is a layered foul, but very hard on that Ethan Ampadu,” another user tweeted.

Football observer who has also played for Wales, Robert Earnshaw also agrees with many fans on social media.

“I like Peter Walton (referee), but I have to disagree with him and UEFA. In any training this happens every day, people just get up and play.” said Robert Earnshaw, who has made 59 appearances for Wales.

Ampadu will miss Wales’ last 16 match. Rob Page’s team will face the runners-up in Group B in the round of 16 which is still being contested by Finland, Russia and Denmark.
