Watkins brings Inter Villa to defeat Newcastle 2-0

DBasia.news – Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins scored his first Premier League goal in 10 games which midfielder Bertrand Traore doubled to send his side to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

The result propelled Villa to ninth place after collecting 29 points from 17 matches, while Newcastle fell to 16th place with 19 points from 19 matches after losing their fourth successive loss since the turn of the year.

Villa pressed from the start of the match. Watkins then put them ahead in the 13th minute when he beat visitors goalkeeper, Karl Darlow with his header after Fabian Schaer failed to clear Matt Targett’s low cross from the left.

Watkins made another effort but was ruled out for being offside before Traore made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute after beating Darlow with a perfect first-time shot thanks to a superb assist from Jack Grealish.

Villa kept pressing after the break and Darlow nipped off Watkins’ effort before Ross Barkley came close to scoring with a heel-kick, as did Grealish who’s shot went wide off the net.

This result also made Newcastle winless in 10 consecutive matches in all competitions which also put more pressure on manager, Steve Bruce.
