Wijnaldum Still Needs Adaptation at PSG

DBasia.news – Georginio Wijnaldum’s performance with Paris Saint-Germain is still up and down. However, Wijnaldum asked fans to be patient because he needed time to adapt.

Wijnaldum came to PSG on a free transfer after his contract expired at Liverpool. He is such a versatile midfielder that PSG insisted on cornering him from Barcelona.

Wijnaldum received a significant salary increase and was contracted for two years. His new adventure with PSG did not go smoothly because the team was full of star players.

Therefore, Wijnaldum must compete with names such as Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes, Ander Herrera, Idriss Gueye, and Julian Draxler who have played at the club longer. Not to mention, when Angel Di Maria is played in the middle, the competition is getting tougher.

So far, Wijnaldum has appeared 20 times with three goals and one assist. However, from a total of 944 minutes played, Wijnaldum means less than 50 minutes per game and is mostly a reserve.

So it is natural that Wijnaldum’s future began to be speculated when several clubs were interested in him in the winter transfer market. With the 2022 World Cup waiting for next year, Wijnaldum can’t just be a cover status.

However, Wijnaldum is not willing to give up and insists that he is still adapting to the club and French football culture. Because Wijnaldum also experienced this while still playing at Liverpool.

“You have to get to know each other first, the game system, how you want to play. Not only the new players coming in, but the old players too because this is a group of players who have just played together and they have to get used to it!” said Wijnaldum in interview on the official Ligue 1 website.

“It takes time, but as I said, football is a very fast-paced sport. I also experienced it when I just joined Liverpool. It took a few years before we could win trophies,” continued the Dutchman.
