Wijnaldum’s Decision to Join PSG Is Considered Wrong

DBasia.news – Georginio Wijnaldum’s career at Paris Saint-Germain did not go as expected. Wijnaldum’s choice to join PSG was criticized by Rafael van der Vaart.

The Dutch midfielder moved to Paris last summer. Previously Wijnaldum spent five successful seasons with Liverpool, where he was a key part of winning the 2018-19 Champions League and 2019-20 Premier League.

At his new club, Wijnaldum must compete with Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes and Idrissa Gueye for a place in the midfield for Les Parisiens. Wijnaldum has played 32 times in all competitions, but his average playing time is less than an hour per appearance.

Wijnaldum has only made seven full appearances in 25 appearances in Ligue 1. While in the Champions League, Wijnaldum has played five times in PSG’s eight games, despite only starting three games and not even playing 90 minutes.

The 31-year-old footballer could actually have joined Barcelona before choosing PSG. Wijnaldum has reached a verbal agreement with the Blaugrana. But his move to Catalan never materialized because he chose PSG after making a much more lucrative offer.

“Wijnaldum was wrong by choosing PSG,” said the former top Dutch player as reported by SPORT.

“Now Georginio will understand the importance of knowing how to choose,” continued Van der Vaart.

Georginio Wijnaldum is still under contract with PSG until the summer of 2024. Wijnaldum admits he is facing a difficult situation but he has not given up.

I can’t say I’m completely happy, because the situation wasn’t what I wanted it to be. But that’s football and I have to learn to deal with it. I am a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to change fate,” said Wijnaldum recently.
