DBasia.news – Crystal Palace opened their 2020/21 Premier League campaign with positive results. Entertaining Southampton at Selhurst Park, the hosts won 1-0.
Wilfried Zaha became the hero of Palace’s victory thanks to his only goal in the first half. After the interval, there were no additional goals from the hosts nor replies from the visitors.
Thus, Palace joined Arsenal who previously managed to beat Fulham 3-0 at the top of the Premier League standings by packing three points.
Appearing with the best composition, Roy Hodgson’s squad immediately kicked off in the first half. After groping for the visitors’ defense, Palace had the upper hand in the 13th minute.
Starting from the creation made by Andros Townsend, which made it easier for Zaha to score the opener. The 1-0 score lasted until both teams entered the break room.
After the break, the two teams made a number of substitutions to change the direction of their play. Hodgson brought on Milivojevic and Eze in the second half, while manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl brought on Vetergaard, Djenepo and Long.
However, this change did not affect either team during the second 45 minutes. Southampton who tried to steal a goal were unable to complete every opportunity they got.
Until the referee blew the long whistle, the scoreboard still showed the score 1-0. In the next match, Palace will visit Bournemouth headquarters on September 16.
Meanwhile, Southampton will play their first home game of the season against Brendtford the day after.
