DBasia.news – Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel, prepared a special strategy to overcome the absence of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner. Tuchel will replace Kai Havertz as a striker.
Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Malmo in midweek came at a cost with injuries to Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku. In fact, the two have been the Blues’ mainstay in breaking into the opponent’s goal this season.
The situation is getting complicated as Chelsea does not have many options on the bench. The Blues have already cleaned up the striker position by releasing Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham, and Olivier Giroud. Therefore, Tuchel has to rack his brain for a number of games ahead such as facing Norwich City, Southampton and Newcastle United.
“We never know when Lukaku and Werner will recover. They could come back sooner or even later than initially thought,” Tuchel told the Blues’ official website.
“One thing I can confirm is that both of them are recovering. Both players are feeling positive and not too worried about the injuries they have. Unfortunately, they will definitely miss the next two games.”
To overcome the absence of Lukaku and Werner, Tuchel has prepared a special strategy. He will put Kai Havertz as the spearhead.
“For me, Havertz is not a false nine striker as he is very strong in the opponent’s penalty box. He is also careful to get into the opponent’s defense area,” explained the manager.
“I think Havertz is able to play well in the number 9 position. He is also satisfying for us as shown against Malmo. So, for the time being, Havertz will be our spearhead.”
Currently, Chelsea is at the top of the standings with 19 points from eight matches. The Blues are narrowly ahead, one point, from second place, Liverpool.
