DBasia.news – Barcelona was rumored to be selling Frenkie de Jong in the next winter transfer market. The news is now firmly denied by the new coach of the Blaugrana, Xavi Hernandez.
De Jong’s future has been uncertain at Barcelona. This was after the departure of Ronald Koeman from the coaching position.
Barcelona reportedly will sell De Jong in order to obtain fresh funds to spend on players. The Dutch midfielder does have a fairly high value.
De Jong is also said to be a barter tool for Barcelona to bring Raheem Sterling from Manchester City. Xavi did ask to purchase a new winger to the club owner.
But Xavi has made De Jong’s position clear. He will not let go of the Dutch national player.
“Frenkie is not for sale at all. Instead, our idea is to strengthen his position here,” Xavi said at a press conference ahead of the match against Villarreal.
“The aim is to make the players happy here. We need that type of player.”
Xavi seems to still need De Jong. The player always appeared in full in his first two matches.
With a fairly young age, De Jong can even be Xavi’s mainstay for a long period of time. He could be the successor to Sergio Busquets as Barcelona’s midfield general.
