DBasia.news – Barcelona coach Xavi has issued an ultimatum to Ousmane Dembele regarding his future. There are two choices, sign a new contract or leave the Barcelona club this month.
Dembele could go free at the end of the season on free agents or be sold this January. Given that Barca spent a lot of money up to 100 million euros more when signing him from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, they would not want to let him go for free.
Xavi was firm with the French winger. Quoted from Twitter, European football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Xavi gave Dembele an ultimatum to sign a new contract or be sold this January.
“We can’t wait for Ousmane. A contract extension or a solution to sell him must be decided immediately. I’m not considering leaving him. He said he wanted to stay but then didn’t sign the contract,” said Xavi.
“The message is clear. Ousmane Dembele has to sign a new contract or we will find a way to sell him in January. There is no other way.”
“I also imagined his agent talking like that and Dembele, on the other hand, telling me he wanted to stay. I don’t understand that.”
Previously Moussa Sissoko, Dembele’s agent confirmed that he and his client were open to holding talks but Barcelona did not respond well.
“We don’t know what will happen, nothing is agreed or signed, but the directors are missing Ousmane himself. From the start we were willing to talk, on conditions, of course, but without closing the door,” said Sissoko.
“They can’t threaten Dembele that he will be out six months without playing if he doesn’t renew now. This is the kind of pressure that doesn’t work with people like us. Maybe with other agents, but not with me. I defend the interests of the players.
