DBasia.news – Xavi Hernandez apparently still has a desire to train his former team, Barcelona. Xavi also revealed that he had turned down the opportunity because it was not the right time.
The 40-year-old former midfielder was previously predicted to become Barcelona’s new coach after Ernesto Valverde was dismissed in January. However, Xavi missed the offer because he had recently started a career as coach of Sadd.
In the process, Barca appointed Quique Setien. The decision itself is questionable because Setien does not have a convincing CV because he only trained teams like Las Palmas and Real Betis.
“In January, that was not the right time,” Xavi told the 2022 World Cup ambassador Samuel Eto’o, as reported by Marca. “I did have a chance to talk with [club director Eric] Abidal and [Oscar] Grau, and a big offer, but at that time it was not the right time.”
“I need more experience. Coaching Barcelona is my dream. I want to do it someday and I have said this many times.”
Barcelona is still associated with Neymar in the next exchange. Xavi supports that the Brazilian superstar can return.
“He entered the ranks of the top three or the top five best players in the world, no doubt. He can make a difference. Let’s hope he returns to Barcelona. I am a Barcelona supporter and I want the best players to be there,” concluded the owner of 25 champion trophies with the Barca.
