Absent from pre-season training, Bayer Leverkusen does not expect Kai Havertz to return

DBasia.news – Kai Havertz is said to be absent from Bayer Leverkusen’s pre-season training. Often rumored to have left for Chelsea, Leverkusen did not expect the 21-year-old player to return.

Kai Havertz has long been a target of Chelsea in the transfer market this summer. Transfer negotiations between Chelsea and Leverkusen are believed to have been going on for weeks.

Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing with Leverkusen regarding the transfer of Kai Havertz. The Blues will redeem the 21-year-old midfielder for 70 million pounds plus an additional 15 million pounds.

Amid speculation regarding his future, Kai Havertz continues to fulfill his obligation to take the corona virus test with Leverkusen last Friday and Saturday. However, he then did not appear in the fitness test that Leverkusen held on Sunday (30/8/2020) as part of pre-season.

Now, Kai Havertz is with the German national team ahead of the UEFA Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland. Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz said Kai Havertz and several other players who are also rumored to be leaving may not return to training with the club.

“Kevin Volland and the national team players did not participate in training today,” Bosz said in a press conference as reported by the Evening Standard.

“Leon Bailey was also not there. Unfortunately our squad is uncertain.”

“I don’t expect Volland and Havertz to train with us again,” Bosz continued.

“Maybe there will be more transfers and we obviously still have to sign some players,” he stated.

If this transfer does materialize, then Kai Havertz will become Chelsea’s sixth signing in the transfer market this summer. The club from West London is busy in the transfer market and has brought in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.
