Ahead of the Manchester Derby, Man United Were Asked Not to Play De Gea

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Former Arsenal player who is now an English football expert, Paul Merson, suggested that Manchester United should not play David de Gea in the Manchester derby against Manchester City. He conveyed this advice because De Gea made a fatal mistake against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson criticized the Spanish goalkeeper. De Gea was considered late to take the ball and became the winning goal for Die Bullen.

Given the inconsistent performance and frequent mistakes, Paul Merson advised Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to park De Gea and choose Dean Henderson as the main goalkeeper.

Merson even asked Solskjaer to rest De Gea until the season ended. According to him, Dean Henderson is more worthy of being MU’s main goalkeeper at this time.

“He made a mistake on the third goal (against Leipzig), if Ole was firm he would say, ‘You are out, Dean Henderson comes in,” Paul said as quoted by the Mirror.

“Play him (Henderson) now when no one is watching, then when 75,000 fans come back he has confidence. It’s time to play with him. What are they waiting for?”

“David de Gea shouldn’t be playing this season.” emphasized Merson.

It is interesting to see if Solskjaer will follow Merson’s advice by playing Dean Henderson in the derby against Manchester City on Sunday (13/12).
