Atalanta Manager refuses to think about the Scudetto after a brilliant performance
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini admitted he did not want to think about the Italian Serie A title, although now nine points adrift of the top of the standings, Juventus. Atalanta recorded nine wins in a row after defeating Sampdoria on Thursday (9/7) AM. An additional three points has made Atalanta rise to third place in the standings displacing Inter Milan.
La Dea will face Juventus in the next match. If Atalanta were able to defeat Juventus, they would only be six points adrift of the defending champions.
“We cannot let that float in our minds, because Juventus have a scudetto in their grasp,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.
“Even yesterday, though they lost 2-4 to Milan, they still showed that they were the strongest team. We only tried to challenge ourselves, to secure the Champions League spot, try to beat our record points, and then see if we can finish over Lazio or Inter, “he stated.
Regarding the match against Sampdoria, Gasperini said he had expected the Genoa-based team to provide heavy resistance and be able to launch a dangerous counterattack.
“We performed well, as this is the risk of this type of match, but we played with intensity and proved that we have many ways to win the match. That’s a valuable thing,” Gasperini added.
Atalanta also has two consecutive entries. This proves that they are not just a team with great attack power.
“It depends on our experience as time goes by. This is practically the same squad as last season, we only added (Luis) Muriel, Ruslan Malinovskyi and a number of young players. We played in Europe and that made us have the ability to interpret the game in various ways, “he continued.
Atalanta has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and the draw to find out their potential opponents will be held on Friday.
“I see the match against Juventus as a test ahead of the Champions League, that’s the way I want to apply in looking at it,” he concluded.
