DBasia.news – Atletico Madrid failed to step into the semifinals of the Champions League after losing 1-2 against RB Leipzig on Friday (14/8) AM. Atletico midfielder, Saul Niguez admitted that RB Leipzig appeared impressively throughout the 90 minutes.
He considered that Julian Nagelsmann’s squad deserved to be congratulated. At the same time, Atletico had to evaluate themselves.
“We know what we expect, but our game plan, did not work,” said Niguez to El Chiringuito, as quoted by Football Espana.
He felt that Leipzig is superior to everything. The German representative made Atletico play in his own area. Saul and his colleagues did not create much in the opponent’s penalty area.
“It hurts to lose, but our opponents were better in this match. They raised the tempo and we don’t know how to react. They are superior to us and on several occasions we can even get close to stopping them,” concluded Saul.
The two goals from Dani Olmo (50 ‘) and Tyler Adams (88’) sent Die Rotten Bullen through to the semifinals to challenge League 1 champions, Paris Saint Germain (PSG). Atletico were only able to reply through Joao Felix’s penalty. The penalty award was awarded after Felix was brought down by Lukas Klostermann in the forbidden box.
