Attacked by Corona virus Controversy, Atalanta Manager furious
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Atalanta’s manager, Gian Piero Gasperini was furious with the corona virus controversy towards him after he conducted an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. Gasperini considers the attack to have adverse impact and very offensive (insulted him).
Some time ago Gasperini said that he felt the symptoms of the corona virus when Atalanta played against Valencia in the last two of the Champions League top 16 match in early March. The 62-year-old coach was only aware of being positive for Covid-19 after conducting tests after the game.
Gasperini’s confession surprised Valencia, as they thought Gasperini should not have accompanied Atalanta when the match took place at the risk of transmission to others.
“Valencia CF would like to publicly express our surprise at the statements made by Atalanta coach, Gian Piero Gasperini who appeared in Italian media this Sunday,” wrote a statement from Valencia’s official website.
“Stating that, the day before and the match day played on March 10 at Mestalla, the coach of our opposing team in the top 16 of the Champions League is aware of symptoms that are theoretically compatible with the symptoms of the corona virus, without taking precautions.”
“Such an act, if this is the case, will endanger many people while traveling to – and living in Valencia.”
Gasperini was supposed to understand the statement from Valencia, but the former Inter Milan coach could not understand the development of the news which turned into controversy and offended him.
“This is a very offensive controversy,” Gian Piero Gasperini told Sky Sports Italia.
“I know I respect the protocol, I’m in quarantine like everyone else. I didn’t do a swab test, but in May when we did serological tests I found that I had contracted the virus.”
“I am sick and in pain, but I have never had a fever or lung problems in any form. When I left Bergamo, I was fine, I experienced a few problems at night and the following day. But the controversy was offensive and disappointing. “
Atalanta’s owner, Antonio Percassi also gave his support to Gasperini. According to him the club has followed the rules of the corona virus and continues to move forward afterwards.
“I’m with Gasperini and the players. I’m looking forward,” said Antonio Percassi.
“Control says that, like Atalanta with our members, we do everything according to the rules and with caution. This is fundamental for us. We are in Bergamo,” he explained.
