City in Defense Crisis, Guendogan Ready to Shift Position to Defender
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester City midfielder, Ilkay Guendogan, claims he is ready to be shifted to a central defender following the backline crisis experienced by The Citizens.
Manchester City won 3-0 at home to Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday (10/26) evening Western Indonesian Time. In that match, Guendogan had shifted as a central defender at the end of the second half. Because Fernandinho got a red card and City have made three substitutions.
The Citizens themselves are experiencing a crisis at the backline this season. Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, and Nicolas Otamendi took turns experiencing injuries. As a result, Rodri and Fernandinho are also often shifted as central defenders.
Guendogan said, if necessary, he was also ready to become a player in the backline.
“Unfortunately, we still have Nicolas Otamendi, who cannot perform because we have changed three players,” Guendogan said at Soccerway.
“If I’m needed, I’m ready to help teams anywhere. If I need to play center back for a lot of games, I will try my best to help the team, but I haven’t thought that far yet.”
“We are unlucky at the moment and the red card doesn’t help, but we still have a great team on the field,” Guendogan added.
