Defeat Bayer Leverkusen, Antonio Conte is satisfied with the performance of his players
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Inter Milan manager, Antonio Conte said he was satisfied with his team’s performance when playing according to the strategy designed to qualify for the Europa League semifinals after defeating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the quarter-finals, Tuesday (11/8) AM.
“I am very satisfied because we played as we had planned for this match, not even allowing Leverkusen to linger on the ball, always with a certain level of pressure. The coach is happy that he witnessed such a commitment,” Conte said on the UEFA website.
Romelu Lukaku created one of the goals that determined Inter’s victory so that Leverkusen struggled to overcome the deficit even though he managed to score a return goal and this did not allow them to reach the semifinals.
Regarding Lukaku, Conte said, “Lukaku? It is difficult to choose players after a team performance as good as this. Certainly all teams are playing to put the attacker in a position to express himself in the best possible way and score goals.”
Leverkusen himself acknowledged the superiority of his Italian opponent.
“We lost against a great opponent. We didn’t play well in the first 20 minutes, in the second half I thought we could do something, even if we didn’t have first-class chances,” said Leverkusen coach ,Peter Bosz.
This was agreed by Leverkusen midfielder, Kerem Demirbay.
“We are disappointed that we were left out. We did not defend well all the time. Lukaku was decisive for this match. It was not easy against the Italian team,” added Demirbay.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan defender, Diego Godín praised Antonio Conte who has forged Inter to become a team as strong as they are now.
“You often say you have to play every game like its the final, but with this format it’s really like that and we are ready for our next ‘final’,” stated Godin.
“After playing in different ways over the years, I need time to adapt. The physical material (pattern of play) of Conte’s football is more demanding than I used to do. But now I feel okay and I can help the team, especially with my experience, “continued Godin.
His colleague, Nicolò Barella chimed in, “Tonight we proved the people that said we weren’t a united team wrong.”
