Detained by AS Roma, Andrea Pirlo’s Strategy Is Not Yet Good for Juventus

DBasia.news – Juventus under Andrea Pirlo failed to continue its positive trend in the second week of the 2020-2021 Serie A season. The Bianconeri even almost lost when they visited AS Roma headquarters.

Competing at the Stadio Olimpico, Monday (28/9), the two teams ended the match with a score of 2-2. Two goals from Jordan Veretout were rewarded with the same number of goals by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Juventus’ appearance is not as optimal as when they beat Sampdoria last weekend. The Old Lady was even in a depressed position after playing with ten people since the 62nd minute after Adrien Rabiot was red carded.

Pirlo did not deny that Juventus’ performance had decreased compared to when they beat Sampdoria. However, he considered it natural considering that Roma had better quality.

“We are facing two completely different teams this season, so I know our approach will be very different from the one against Sampdoria,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“This is a step back in terms of performance. But it’s a work in progress and we haven’t had the chance to play a pre-season friendly to test these things.”

Juventus’ preparation for the 2020-2021 season is indeed very short when compared to before. The Old Lady only played one friendly match before competing in Serie A.

The match against Rome is also a signal that the philosophy of the game that Pirlo applies still has many shortcomings. This of course must be corrected immediately considering a number of opponents who are stronger than Il Giallorossi are waiting.

“We wanted to take advantage of the one-on-one situation, because we knew Roma would attack in large numbers, but it didn’t go the way we expected. “It will always be difficult against an organized team,” added Pirlo.

“We try to keep the midfield tight so that there is no room for the trequartista, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But we have to test all these situations during the match, considering we don’t have pre-season friendlies.”

Next week, Juventus will face Napoli, which is certainly no less tough than Roma. Il Partenopei also beat them in the Coppa Italia final.
