Jose Mourinho is going through a difficult phase at AS Roma

DBasia.news – Just a few months after being coached by Jose Mourinho, AS Roma is going through a difficult phase in the midst of inconsistency in team performance. Mourinho’s record is not even better than his predecessor, Paulo Fonseca.

Mourinho signed a contract with Roma for three years (until 2024). At first things went great with six wins from seven games, but the team’s form has declined since losing in the derby against Lazio in September.

Roma have now lost five times in Serie A and according to Football-Italy, that’s two more than Fonseca last season. Roma currently have 19 points from 12 Serie A matches, five points lower than Fonseca in the 2020-2021 season.

A year ago Fonseca lost once of three games from 12 Serie A matches, and collected 24 points. Fonseca, who is also from Portugal like Mourinho, won seven of his 12 Serie A games last season (Mourinho six).

In addition, Fonseca’s Roma also scored 27 goals, six more than the current Roma. However, Il Giallorossi this season is better in terms of defense by conceding 15 goals from 12 matches, while last season Roma conceded 17 goals.

Roma’s inconsistency can be seen from the last six matches in all competitions. Roma only won once, while the remaining two drew and lost three. The details are against Bodo/Glimt (1-6), Napoli (0-0), Cagliari (2-1), Milan (1-2), Bodo/Glimt (2-2), and Venezia (2-3).

“Until it becomes mathematically impossible, I want to keep saying fourth place is the target. Roma finished sixth or seventh in the last few seasons, the club made an effort over the summer, but it is more of a transfer activity than building,” Mourinho said after the match against Venezia.

“I don’t think this squad is stronger than last season. We lost a lot of experience, we had to bring in players to replace those who left, a lot of them lack experience at this level.”

“As a coach on a three-year contract, this season can be a painful season for the body and soul, but it’s still important for me to understand something I couldn’t understand before I arrived. I already know a lot more than I did two months ago.”
