Didier Deschamps Officially Extends the Contract with the French National Team
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Good news comes from the French national team. Their coach, Didier Deschamps, officially extended the contract until 2022. That was announced by the French Football Federation (FFF) on Tuesday (10/12/2019).
Deschamps who was the captain of the French national team when he won the 1998 World Cup, has been the architect of Les Bleus since the summer of 2012.
“I am very happy, very proud to be able to continue the adventure (until the 2022 World Cup), even though our next goal is the European Cup 2020,” Deschamps said as reported by AFP.
FFF president Noel Le Graet had previously said that the extension of the Deschamps contract depended on whether France qualified for the 2020 European Cup.
The former Marseille coach took France through to the European four-yearly soccer tournament, even though they were in a group with the 2014 World Cup champions Germany, and defending European Cup champions Portugal.
He will soon become the France coach with the longest tenure, surpassing Michel Hidalgo’s eight and a half year record when handling the country from January 1976 to June 1984.
Deschamps has won 65 of the 100 matches since replacing Laurent Blanc as national team captain, after the 2012 European Cup.
