DBasia.news – Despite his impressive performance with Real Madrid, Didier Deschamps hasn’t called-up Karim Benzema to support France national team. The coach talks about his decision.
Benzema was involved in a sex tape blackmail to his teammate Mathieu Valbuena in 2015. The incident suspended both of them from the squad to protect the harmony of the squad.
But, Benzema’s great contribution with Real Madrid through 4 Champions League trophies in five recent years is enough to make him deserves a place in France national team.
Unfortunately, Deschamps is offended with Benzema’s allegation during an interview in 2016 with Spanish media Marca. At that time, he accused the former France national team player who won the 1998 World Cup chose the player based on the racial consideration.
“Some people can give speeches that can have consequences that go beyond any form of understanding, and I can never forget that,” Deschamps said cited by Marca.
“At that moment I considered that a line had been crossed.”
“I pick French players, all of them are French, and it has never occurred to me to not select someone based on their color or religion.”
Deschamps brought Les Blues achieved the second World Cup trophy in 2018 after defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final round.
