DBasia.news – Atalanta has certainly failed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2019-2020 Champions League season after being defeated by Paris Saint Germain by a score of 1-2, Thursday (13/8) AM. Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gesperini admitted that he was disappointed when he saw his players experience a comeback from PSG ahead of the game.

The Serie A representative had the lead first through a goal scored by Mario Pasalic in the 27th minute. Entering the last minutes, Atalanta continued to be pressed which made them play with 10 people because Remu Freuler suffered an injury. PSG took advantage of this situation.

The French champions scored two goals in 90 minutes and injury time. That’s why Gasperini felt like he had a painful impression.

He thinks they could have conceded at the start of the match. But the reality is different.

“Conceding in the last minute, it hurts more,” Gasperini told Sky, as quoted by Football Italia.

But despite the drama of the game in Lisbon, he is still proud of the journey of his team.

“We are having a great Champions League. We have improved against the best European teams. I can only thank the players for everything they did this season,” he added.

He slightly analyzed the rhythm of the match. According to Gasperini, Les Perisiens are fortunate to have great players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar da Silva jr. The presence of these two stars brings to life the elite team from the world’s fashion city.

Despite failing to qualify for the semifinals of the Champions League, Gesperini admits that he has gained valuable experience from this event. For the 2020-2021 season, the Atalanta squad returned to play in the Champions League after finishing third in the 2019-2020 Serie A season.
