FIFA’s Plans for the Women’s World Cup
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, stated that he would change the schedule for the Women’s World Cup, which is planned to be held every two years, not four years.
“Of course we focus on the extraordinary impact on the development of women’s football compared to the women’s soccer club itself,” Infantino said as quoted by The Guardian, Sunday (12/22/2019).
“We need to see what big events we can create to support this. So the focus, of course, is now to study all aspects of support, “he added.
Previously, FIFA had also made the decision to expand the Women’s World Cup participation. At the Women’s World Cup event in 2023 the participating teams would later grow to 32 countries from previously being 24 countries.
For the 2023 Women’s World Cup event itself, FIFA has yet to decide where it will take place. So far there have been 5 countries that submitted themselves as hosts, namely Brazil, Japan, Colombia, Austria and New Zealand.
The Women’s World Cup event was first held in 1991. The 1991 Women’s World Cup took place in China with the United States coming out as champions. Uncle Sam’s team became the country that collected the most women’s World Cup titles as much as 4 times.
