DBasia.news – The President of La Liga, Javier Tebas, wants the 2020/2021 season to start on September 12th, ahead of football’s return on June 11th.

The highest caste of Spanish football has been suspended since mid-March due to the corona virus pandemic, but has now received permission to be held again on 11 June, with the derby match between Sevilla and Real Betis marking.

Tebas said that the organizers were trying hard to be able to restart the football season on schedule, even though logistical mobility might be a problem because some areas were still not free from lockdown policies.

The capital city of Madrid and parts of Catalunya, including Barcelona, are still in the First Phase in the appointment of the lockdown, so they still forbid people to go in large groups.

“With God’s permission, we will restart [the competition] on June 11. Let’s hope that Madrid and Barcelona can enter the Second Phase,” Tebas said in his interview with Marca.

“There are more than 130 people working in La Liga trying to get everything done, in a new way, both in terms of traveling, organization – everything.”

With a long pause over the past three months, it looks like there won’t be another pause next summer. So the new season will start shortly after the long season is over.

“We are prepared and the important thing is the next day to finish the competition [which is now]. The next season will start on September 12th.”

European soccer competitions are expected to be completed by the end of July, and after that, the Champions League and Europa League matches are expected to be completed throughout August.
