Joan Laporta is Getting Closer to Barcelona’s Presidential chair

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The competition to become Barcelona’s new president does not appear too fierce. Joan Laporta is predicted to win the election easily.

These signs can be seen from the process of gathering signatures from club members as one of the official conditions for advancing in the presidential election. In this stage, Laporta is far superior to other candidates.

Reporting from Mundo Deportivo, the former president of Barcelona from 2003 to 2010 was able to collect 10,272 signatures. That is the largest amount collected from all presidential candidates.

The second position is occupied by Victor Font who collected 4,713 signatures. Two other candidates who met the requirements were Toni Freixa (2,822 signatures) and Emili Rousaud (2,510 signatures).

Meanwhile, five candidates failed to meet the requirements because they were unable to collect signatures of at least 2,257 pieces. This amount is the threshold that determines the validity of each candidate to advance to the selection process.

That means, the official Barcelona presidential election will only be followed by four candidates. From the competition map, Laporta is certainly far ahead of its competitors.

If Laporta is re-elected as president, Barcelona’s chances to keep Lionel Messi will be even more open. The two of them does have a pretty good relationship.

The procession for the Barcelona presidential election will continue on January 24. Previously there was a discourse to postpone the schedule along with the increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in the Catalonia region.
