Joaquin’s Hat-trick Exceeds Alfredo Di Stefano’s Record

DBasia.news –  Sunday (12/08/2019), Real Betis won 3-2 over Athletic Bilbao at the same time a special achievement was made by Joaquin Sanchez. The 38-year-old player scored three goals against the opponent and the hat-trick made him break the record of Real Madrid legend, Alfredo Di Stefano.

In the match that took place at the Benito Villamarin Stadium, the former Spanish national team player scored three goals in the initial 20 minutes of the match. His first goal was made in the 2nd minute. He then added two more goals in the 11th and 20th minutes. Interestingly, it was his first hat-trick for 20 years working in LaLiga.

The special moment against Athletic Bilbao also brought Joaquin Sanchez to become the oldest hat-trick scorer in LaLiga. At his age of 38 years 140 days. He broke the old record held by Alfredo Di Stefano who scored a hat-trick at 37 years 255 days in 1964.

This special achievement was welcomed by Joaquin Sanchez. “This is something I feel impossible to repeat. I am not a top scorer. Being able to score three goals in one match against rivals is something to be proud of, “he said after the match as quoted by Diario de Sevilla.

For Real Betis too, Joaquin Sanchez’s hat-trick ended the wait for 22 years. The last time Betis scored three goals at Benito Villamarin was against Athletic Bilbao in 1997. At the time, the scorer of three goals was Finidi George.
