John Obi Mikel Retires from the Nigerian National Team

DBasia.news – John Obi Mikel, decided to retire from the Nigerian national team. This decision has practically made the 2019 African Cup event which took place in Egypt to be his last appearance with Nigeria.
Nigeria failed to penetrate the final after being defeated by Algeria in the semifinals with a score of 1-2. As for Algeria, finally came out as champions after beating Senegal 1-0 in the final.
“Egypt is the country where I started and ended my career with the national team. In 2006 I played for the first time for my country. Now the 2019 African Cup marks my last appearance, “said Mikel.
“At the age of 32 became the time for me to retire from the national team and I want the young players to continue,” he continued.
The 32-year-old midfielder has recorded 89 appearances for his country since 2005. In that period he scored six goals.
Despite retiring in the Nigerian national team, the former Chelsea player continued his career as a footballer. Moreover, he had just signed a contract with the Turkish club, Trabzonspor until 2021.
