Jurgen Klopp Disappointed with Atletico Madrid’s Playing Style

DBasia.news –  Liverpool had to be defeated at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League second leg, Thursday (12/03) AM with a score of 2-3. The Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp was annoyed to see the playing style of the team coached by Diego Simeone.

Juergen Klopp said he could not help but see the negative style of play carried by Atletico Madrid. According to him, if they wanted, Los Rojiblancos can come up with an attacking style and play attractively.

“I do not understand why Atletico chose this style of play with the players they have,” said Juergen Klopp after the Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid match, as quoted by Marca.

Furthermore, Klopp revealed, “I see there are players like Koke, Saul (Niguez) or (Marcos) Llorente … They can play different styles of football, not just being in their own territory and playing counterattack.”

In the match at Anfield Stadium, Atletico Madrid did take a defensive position with occasional counterattacks. Throughout the game, their ball possession was only 37%. They also only fired 10 shots. It was very different from Juergen Klopp’s team who fired 35 shots in 120 minutes.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund coach admitted he found it difficult to accept the defeat from Atletico Madrid which ended a series of 25 matches without defeat by Liverpool at Anfield. Nevertheless, he still recognizes the superiority of the opponent.

“Congratulations to them. I don’t feel well tonight. I am a bad loser. However, they were brilliant. We have to accept that we conceded three goals. Atletico is indeed the winner, “explained Klopp.

The certainty of Juergen Klopp’s players in being eliminated in the top 16 of the Champions League was like a deja vu. In the 2005-06 season, Liverpool were also eliminated in the same round when predicated as champions. The difference is, they were then removed by the Portuguese representative, Benfica.
