DBasia.news – Juventus officially brought in United States midfielder, Weston McKennie (22 years old), from the German Bundesliga club, Schalke.
This was confirmed in Juventus’ uploads on social media on Saturday (30/8) AM, WIB. McKennie was brought in on loan with a purchase option at the end of the 2020/21 season.
Juve have paid for McKennie’s loan of 4.5 million euros and a tag of 18.5 million euros in permanent terms for the player if he is reduced to 60 percent of the Old Lady’s total matches next season.
McKennie’s purchase value has the potential to increase by 7 million pounds if certain points in the clause relating to performance achievement are met at the end of the season.
“The deal we have made with Juventus is the most profitable financially for Schalke and the most attractive transfer for Weston [McKennie],” said Schalke’s sporting director Jochen Schneider.
McKennie was plotted as a replacement for Blaise Matuidi. He recently left for the MLS club, Inter Miami.
Together with Chelsea star, Christian Pulisic and Ajax fullback, Sergino Dest, McKennie is part of the golden generation of the United States national team who is on the rise in European competition.
McKennie was signed by Schalke from FC Dallas in the 2016/17 season. He has appeared in 91 games in all competitions for Die Knappen since breaking into the main squad a year later.
Together with Schalke, the owner of 19 caps in the US national team has contributed five goals and seven assists. But in the last two seasons, the club’s achievements have plummeted after finishing 14th and 12th in the Bundesliga final standings.
