Lacking on Goals, Arsenal Needs Players Like Mason Mount

DBasia.news – Arsenal lacked goals throughout the start of this season. Legendary defender, Lee Dixon thinks the Gunners needs Mason Mount type of players.

Arsenal made nine goals in eight Premier League games this season. That makes the north London team the sixth worst in the league, only sharper than Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United and Burnley.

At the same time, Arsenal have conceded 10 times. So the goal difference from Mikel Arteta’s team is less.

Alexandre Lacazette is Arsenal’s top scorer with three goals in eight appearances. Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who had always been a goal machine, has only scored two goals until now.

The other four goals were split equally between Eddie Nketiah, Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes. Lee Dixon sees that Arsenal’s problem is a high dependence on Aubameyang and no productive midfielder can attack from the second line.

The defender who led Arsenal to win four Premier League titles exemplifies players like Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount, who likes to stab from the middle. These types of players can be a way out while reducing the opponent’s pressure on the attackers.

“There are no goals from other positions, although Lacazete has three in six appearances, he doesn’t seem as good as before,” said Dixon.

“There are no goals from midfield at all. There are no midfielders who is able to push the opponent, like Mason Mount, or someone who stabs through the middle and into the penalty box.”

“So, with the way you can play from that, and I haven’t even discussed a row of four or five defenders, then you are limited in terms of what you can achieve,” he added.

Last summer Arsenal actually tried to find a creative midfielder who likes to do it, namely Houssem Aouar. But they failed to make a deal with Lyon.

“Does he (Arteta) want those types of players? Where’s the creativity from midfield? A player like Aouar would be someone who has been helping all this time,” he stated.
