Lazio Defender banned from playing in Four Games after biting Giulio Donati
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Lazio defender, Patricio Gabarron Gil was sanctioned in the form of a four-match ban after biting Lecce defender, Giulio Donati in Serie A on Tuesday (7/7).
The Serie A disciplinary court, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday (8/7), said the Spaniard, who was also fined 10,000 euros, had bitten his opponent’s arm in the 48th minute in the second half without causing injury. In that match Lecce won 2-1.
Patric was immediately given a red card after the incident was discovered by VAR officials.
“I apologize for my behavior. I was unconscious,” Patric said on Instagram.
Donati accepted the apology and says these are things that can happen when tension is high. But when someone understands their mistakes and apologizes, what happens on the field is ended without any hard feelings.
The biting incident reminded the public of Luis Suarez’s behavior a few years ago. The Uruguayan striker was found biting the Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup and it was not the first time for Suarez to sink his teeth in another opponent.
When he was an Ajax player, Suarez was banned from playing seven games for biting the shoulder of PSV Eindhoven player, Otman Bakkal in 2010.
Then when defending Liverpool, Suarez was also found biting the arm of a Chelsea player, Branislov Ivanovic, in 2013 and was banned in 10 games.
Patric’s absence will be a blow to the second-ranked team, Lazio, who have suffered a number of injured players and sanctions since the league resumed. Lazio are now also seven points behind leaders, Juventus with seven matches left.
